Quimera awarded by Eurostars programme

Quimera has recently won support from the Eurostars programme for an innovative clean mobility R&D project with applications for commercial transportation.

In July 2014, Quimera, an international company providing sustainable solutions in the fields of energy and mobility, received an award from the Eurostars programme and obtained additional funding to develop the MODBATEV project. The Eurostars programme is a joint programme between EUREKA and the European Commission and is specifically aimed at supporting research based SMEs. Only 70 projects were selected from 299 applications at European level.

MODBATEV project is an innovative concept that introduces a new modular battery system to electric vehicle fleets. The main objective is the development of a modular battery system for electric cars/motorbikes used in private companies and public institutions fleets, in order to optimize the energy needed to complete their daily operations. It will deliver the design of a new EV fleet operating system, including detailed engineering of a new: electric car and motorbike with modular battery system, battery handling and charging configuration, methodology of implementation. Current models of electric vehicles offer a fixed battery pack regardless the range they need for their trip. A modular battery system would avoid several problems that fixed battery packs present: carrying unnecessary battery weight, emergency situations where vehicles run out of battery, or the need to stop vehicles (and its operations) merely to charge batteries.

The project investment is 1,150,000 euros supported by MODBATEV consortium members: Quimera, Altran and R53 Engineering.
